Hello hello! Very exciting things to tell!
So. My first real departure from the island was a whirlwind weekend in London.
And let me tell you, it was an absolutely phenomenal weekend, 6 am flights and all.
Us in all of our woke-up-at-3am sleepy splendor.
We woke up and departed wayyy too early Saturday morning. I never knew I had it in me, and if you know me at all, you’d be impressed to know that I was up at 3 and out the door by 4. Like a pro.
I was beyond excited to do all the super touristy things, and I don’t care who knows it. I was about to start crossing BIG THINGS off of my bucket list.
There is so much to do and see in the fabulous city of London that a weekend couldn’t possibly be enough for it all, but we certainly tried.
First, we took the TUBE!
And found ourselves at Buckingham Palace.
We were trying to make our way across the plaza when the police stopped us. I personally was a little disgruntled (definitely a combination of my touristy enthusiasm and lack of sleep) when we realized…
We had arrived just in time for the changing of the guards!
Fuzzy hats in action!! So cool
We continued along our way, with Christian’s old friend/London native/lovely tour guide George, who was seriously a god send in navigating the vast city.
Spotted some more very British marching!
(Just trying to be artsy)
We stumbled upon Trafalgar Square
Where we saw the Olympic countdown
Guards with gorgeous horses
And of course, me being such a tourist. I’m completely okay with it.
We found Abe Lincoln! GO USA
Quintessential London picture…I spot the London Eye sneaking a peek
Helllo Big Ben! :) It was incredibly awesome to see this bad boy in person. I love having this feeling over and over again–seeing things that I had only ever seen in books all of a sudden looming overhead right in front of me. Surreal.
The London Eye in all its glory
The ferocious metal lions guarding the London Tower
The Tower Bridge
The Gherkin! So fancy
Part II, with my favorite pictures from the weekend, coming soon!
